In some ways the road found Two Runner‘s Paige Anderson early. Born into a musical family, she began touring with her parents’ bluegrass band at nine and built a reputation on the California scene before she was out of her teens. Chuck Ragan once called her a talent who “sets the bar for others to come.” More than a decade on, and amid a season of personal change, she returns with a new full-length built from intimate confessionals and rollicking hymns.
PORCHLIGHT, their second album, arrives August 28th via Gar Hole Records, led by the single Strawberry Rhinestone, out now. Anderson frames the record as a transitional one: it marks goodbyes to both her longtime musical partner Emilie Rose and a decade-long relationship. Even so, the songs stay warm and steady, resolute and tender-hearted.
Strawberry Rhinestone came out of a chance encounter. “I was sitting there when a gal with neon green hair walked in by her lonesome and turned on the movie Electric Horseman,” Anderson says of a dive bar in Salt Lake City, adding that the woman and the film inspired the song. The track rolls along on palomino dreams and barroom heartbreak, with reassurance for anyone unlucky in love: the good ones are hanging around somewhere.
On the track, you can hear Anderson on guitar and vocals, Rose on fiddle, Lucas Lawson on bass, Daniel Young on drums. The video was made by Mike Vanata of Western AF, shot around Laramie, Wyoming and features Cara Potter and a dog named Wilson.
Porchlight is up for pre-order now on two LP colour variants and CD at the Gar Hole webstore and Two Runner’s Bandcamp: https://tworunner.garhole.co/porchlight
