case/lang/veirs are releasing a 10th anniversary deluxe edition of their self-titled 2016 album on 4 September via Anti- Records. The record has, in the years since, earned its reputation as a landmark collaboration between three of North America’s most distinctive voices.
Alongside the announcement, the trio have shared a previously-unreleased track, “Accidental Tattoo.” k.d. lang explains its origins: “It’s a song that came from a sudden creative spark that happened between all 3 of us a couple of years ago. Neko wrote the lyrics, Laura and I organised Neko’s poetry, adding arrangements and intertwining it with melodies and music. And then I worked closely with Larry Goldings on the actual production to fasten all of it into the song you hear now.”
The anniversary edition runs to 27 tracks, adding “Accidental Tattoo” to the original 14 songs plus 12 live versions of each other’s songs recorded during the 2016 tour — covers of tracks from their solo catalogues including “Constant Craving,” “July Flame,” “Hold On Hold On” and “People Have The Power.”
Laura Veirs reflects: “So much in the world has changed since this album first came out in 2016, but when I listen back, these songs still hold up to my ears. I’m proud of what we made together and am thankful for the opportunity to have been part of it.”
All three have been active lately. Neko Case released her ninth studio album Neon Grey Midnight Green last year, and is also composing the score for the forthcoming stage adaptation of Thelma & Louise: A New Musical, which premieres at The Young Vic in London from 3 September through 24 October. Veirs, meanwhile, announced her new solo album Temple Songs — which we covered in May — out on 14 August, with a UK and Ireland tour following in September. The anniversary edition of case/lang/veirs is available to pre-order now.
