Laura Veirs has shared Pulse, the latest single from her forthcoming album Temple Songs, due 14th August via her own label Raven Marching Band Records.
It is the second single from Veirs’s fourteenth solo album, which she announced last month — a record written, recorded, arranged, produced and performed entirely alone, save for one guest. Pulse opens on her nylon-string guitar and bare vocals before opening out into bold electric guitar and the saxophone of ‘Filthy’ Lucre, the album’s only outside contribution. “My favourite moment is the dissonant duet between my electric guitar and the sax,” Veirs says. “I love the feelings of tension and release.”
“This song is about feeling the pulse of being alive — trusting that something good is still moving toward us, even in the middle of chaos and suffering,” she explains. The video, directed by Twixx Williams, sets that idea in a home gym, with Veirs’s blended family and, by her account, some bizarre turns involving cake and silly string. The exercise-video conceit is partly autobiographical: Veirs has taken up weightlifting in recent years and can now deadlift 110 pounds.
Pulse follows lead single Flying Into Darkness, which KLOF backed on release. Mixed by Philip Weinrobe, Temple Songs was made over three months in autumn 2025 in Veirs’s backyard ‘Temple of Bloom’ studio, using two microphones and a laptop and embracing wabi-sabi: no click tracks, no pitch correction, rough edges left in.
Veirs tours the UK and Ireland in September, with longtime tourmate Karl Blau in support, before US dates in October.
