In this week’s Mixtape, you can hear new tunes from Jeffrey Silverstein (our latest Off the Shelf Guest), our Artist of the Month Blair Dunlop, Adela Mede & Štefan Szabó‘s new album Dalok, A Hawk and a Hacksaw, and, released today, a track from Joe Harvey-Whyte & Bobby Lee‘s new AA Single Twin Peaks Theme/The Hired Hand (Order via Bandcamp).
A special mention goes to:
Maria Teresa Pirrigheddu & Vieri Mura, whose new album Rundinas is being released on Nov 13th via Mississippi Records (Bandcamp).
Rundinas documents a profound cross-generational encounter between young Sardinian composer Vieri Mura and the iconic voice of cantu a chiterra, Maria Teresa Pirrigheddu. One of the island’s greatest interpreters of orally-transmitted verse, Maria Teresa was known in her youth for her extraordinarily graceful and elegant phrasing. Today, over eighty years old, she still sings constantly, her voice marked by age as if under the light of another season. For years, Vieri has visited to Maria Teresa to research their shared heritage. The music emerged naturally from the everyday silence of her countryside home. On these recordings, Vieri accompanies Maria Teresa on guitar in her garden, and on organ in the church steps away from her home.
Although not a new track, we open to a newcomer to KLOF: Belfast-based singer-songwriter Áine Gordon. The track is taken from her 2025 EP The Stray, which was produced by Joshua Burnside. I have Jake Xerxes Fussell to thank for discovering her music, as Áine opened all his Irish shows on his recent album tour.
Not-so-recent tunes come from Nico Paulo, Jenny Lysander, ADAYA, Collage, Lake Mary & the Ranch Family Band, Glenn Jones, mise an sliabh and P.G. Six.
