This week’s mixtape explores the outer margins. It includes several releases from Ireland: Trá Pháidín‘s latest album Cloch ‘s Claí, mise an sliabh‘s 2025 album lean mian do chroí, RÓIS‘ 2023 album UISCE AGUS BEAN, sean-nós singing sisters and native Irish speakers from the Gaeltacht: An Chéad Ghlúin Eile‘s, and a bilingual single, sung in Irish and Arabic, from North Belfast Rapper Torby and Leen.
We’ve two releases from Glasgow’s Greater Lanarkshire Auricular Research Council (GLARC): Electroacoustic composer Harry Górski-Brown‘s and Glasgow trio Lene Otis Finn (Lene de Montaigu, Otis Jordan and Finn Rosenbaum):
The trio have been playing together on and off for several years in Glasgow, often in outdoor spaces and with found objects. This year they decided to capture their improvisations and to collaboratively write music before parting ways and moving to different cities. The tape interweaves the sounds of Finn’s own bells, which he forged in Cessnock behind an abandoned swimming pool, with found objects and various instruments, such as harmonium, French horn, clarinet and analogue synthesizer.
Released on Australian Cassette label Burgan Triangle Tapes, we have Scorched Bogon, and from the artist-run Joshua Tree-based imprint Searching Records, we have Elif Dinçer and Zac Burgenbauch, a duo from Los Angeles who make creative music exploring the outer reaches of the harp and lap steel guitar.
We also have two tracks from Kristin McClement‘s new album Chalk From The Downs, Iron From My Blood.
