This week’s mixtape features an eclectic lineup that begins with Mali Obomsawin‘s second solo album, Automatic, out today on Out Of Your Head Records. After her stunning 2022 debut, Sweet Tooth, the Brooklyn-based artist and a citizen of the Abenaki First Nation’s Odanak community in Quebec returns with a work built around a central intention: making a record institutions can’t own.
The Portuguese singer, musician, producer, and composer Ana Lua Caiano returns with an exhilarating second album on which Portuguese folk tradition collide with electronics, rhythmic experimentation, lyrical rebellion and an intensely physical vocal presence.
Allison de Groot & Rich Ruth join forces on their self-titled album, which keeps a tangible sense of human touch and tenderness at the centre of something cosmic: de Groot’s banjo grounds the music, while Ruth’s soaring guitars and electronics blur the boundary between the earthly and the celestial.
A newcomer to KLOF, Musique Domestique marks the debut full-length from French duo Adiciatz, featuring Manon Nogier and Guillaume Lespinasse. The album is rooted as much in folk tradition as in experimental exploration, drawing on a wide palette of influences — from Occitan poetry, delicate folk to drone and spontaneous sound exploration.
In Cyano, synthesist and composer Emily A. Sprague questions self, other, ecology, and life in a distant realm. Cyano is described as a meditation on visibility, psychic transformation, light transmission, and worlds beyond our knowing, materialised through an intuitive use of modular synthesisers and voice.
