Iona Zajac shares video for “Murder Mystery”

Today, Iona Zajac shares “Murder Mystery,” a compelling new single from her forthcoming debut album, Bang, due November 21st.

“Murder Mystery” plunges listeners into a “surreal exploration of discomfort,” as Zajac explains. It’s a “fearless dive into the scary everyday fears women live with,” challenging notions of femininity, reputation, and defiance. “It’s a song that plays with questions about a woman’s place in the world and the space we occupy – of femininity, of reputation, of fear and defiance. Where Scandi Noire meets police corruption in a Milk Murder.

The track encapsulates the album’s broader themes: an unflinching look at survival and reclamation, transforming pain into power through raw, striking lyricism.

The accompanying Zillah Rauter-directed video brings this tension to life, introducing Zajac’s alter ego. This character, “both grotesque and glorious,” is “absolutely hers,” whether sleeping, standing up or keeping her iron in the fridge. “She does exactly what she likes,” says Zajac, embodying the track’s core spirit of unsettling, empowering self-possession. “Murder Mystery” is a potent preview of an artist fearlessly claiming her space.
