Taken from his debut album Different Flowers (due 24th May 2024 on Nightjar Recordings), the stop motion animation for Peter Beatty‘s Tell Me Where To Go began as a project in 2021 during the pandemic and was shot entirely on the boat where Peter lived in London between 2021 and 2023. Directed by Peter and Joseph Boyle, the video combines Peter’s music and visual art for the first time.
The song, inspired by “a boat trip from a few years ago”, is a joyous tribute to adventure, self-exploration and seeking direction. It explores the transformational role of ‘the journey’, reinterpreting the song as ‘an animated epic’. It follows the story of an astronomer who pursues a beguiling light, undertaking an incredible voyage onboard a boat, leading him to places never seen before – transforming both himself and his view of the universe forever.
The video has received a raft of awards and nominations and is one of three videos nominated for an award at the British Animation Awards, which is being held today.
Different Flowers was produced by Fred Thomas and features guest performances from a host of stellar players, including Phillip Granell (Phaedra Ensemble), Ewan Bleach (Ewan Bleach Quartet, Whiskey Moon Face) and Miranda Joy. The album was mixed by Greg Freeman and mastered by Noman Nitzsche at Calyx in Berlin.
