We have a track première today from Icelandic singer songwriter Hek. ‘Don’t Worry’ is from his third album ‘Please Tease Me’ due for release on August 12, 2014.
According to the press release he’s inspired by Jack Kerouac, Kurt Vonnegut and Hunter S. Thompson. How he translates those influences is not mentioned but the song ‘Don’t Worry’ has a lovely sparseness both lyrically and musically that washes over the listener. Hek’s subdued vocals suit the sonically cavernous space in which electric guitar solos are given ample room alongside his words of reassurance and comfort and some lovely female backing vocals that join him half-way through.
The Icelandic influence is stamped all over with Björgvin Gíslason on production duties (he produced 11-year-old Björk’s first album) as well as musical collaborations throughout with former members of The Sugarcubes including Þór Eldon who engineered the album.
