Over the next month, Kings Place will be hosting some of the very best Folk artists including Marry Waterson & David A. Jaycock, Faustus, Maddy Prior, Noel Hill as well as two Album launches from Leveret and Martin Simpson.

Every new Martin Simpson album is one to look forward to, but Trails and Tribulations feels like a biggie, even by the Sheffield string-master’s standards. We listened in as he explained the light and shade running through the set, the importance of nature and the timing of the songs.

Martin Simpson’s ‘Trails and Tribulations’ is a classy, elegant and very confident set that doffs its cap to some top-drawer contributions from some of the country’s very best musician’s and that also benefits from an engineer and producer in mean form.

Martin Simpson is to release his eagerly awaited new solo album entitled Trails and Tribulations on September 1st, via Topic Records. The album features a host of special guests plus we have an exclusive first listen to his cover of Jackson C. Frank’s ‘Blues Run The Game’.

Cambridge Folk Festival is delighted to reveal exciting new additions to this year’s bill, including Lisa Hannigan and Martin Simpson. They join a line-up that brings together up and coming artists and established folk legends in the grounds of Cherry Hinton Hall.

The Shake the Chains cast along with special guest Martin Simpson gave a performance to lift the most sullen heart in these trying times and to point the way to a better future. With a finale which saw everyone singing We Shall Overcome, the evening was a potent reminder that together we could be harmonious and unvanquishable.

Our Song of the Day is taken from The Shee‘s live performance of their Continuum project at Celtic Connections 2016. Each member of the band nominated a collaborator to work with and Laura-Beth Salter chose Martin Simpson.

Next month, folk singer Nancy Kerr will curate a series of events at London’s Kings Place exploring dialogues that spring from our environment and our relationships with, and within it, through literature, music, and song.
