We reviewed a great little venue a while back called The Rude Shipyard, which can be found tucked away in Sheffield. They have a great gig lined up for this Wednesday 22nd September featuring Rowan Coupland and Animal Magic Tricks. Rowan Coupland’s Thorns, brambles, white water and Black Oak is the latest in Willkommen Records’ sterling roster of esoteric alt-folk.

Andrew Belle is a young singer/songwriter who divides his time between Chicago and Nashville. After listening to his debut album, The Ladder, I’m happy to jump in with both feet and say he has his foot well and truly on the ladder of success without the help of a big label! The media hounds have picked up on the scent and are lapping at his heels which in turn has …

Ex-Hefner frontman, Darren Hayman is due to release a new duet with Emmy The Great, titled Calling Out Your Name Again. Darren Hayman met Emma-Lee Moss when they were both recording sessions for a radio station in North London. At the time, Darren was forging his post-Hefner identity while Emma-Lee was perched on the cusp of success.

Catfish The Movie made a big splash at Sundance and it’s released this Friday, 17th Sept in the US. If the build-up currently going on across the net draws in enough people I’m guessing it may well come to the UK. Watch the trailer below to see what all the fuss is about.

Big nod to Colin Meloy for tweeting this. This was the reason given for cancelling The New Pornographers gig at Calvin College who describe themselves as Christian and an academically excellent liberal arts college that shapes minds for intentional participation in the renewal of all things. Hmmmm, this sounds a bit screwed up to me…that they are worried about being mistakenly linked to pornography…crazy world we live in

Yes, The Vaselines are back after a long hiatus…some of you might feel the urge to run behind the sofa like you did when you were ten after watching Dr. Who when the Daleks ambled along on trolley wheels shouting “EXTERMINATE!” (children back then didn’t need special effects to scare the shit out of them). But hold on…don’t run yet! Apart from the fact that it seems to be the …

The Low Anthem put on a performance last night in Belfast that immediately won the crowd over. They are the type of band that will always give a consistently good performance. They get the balance right: they play the hits and they play them well. Their timing, delivery and stage presence is second to none.

My first night at Open House Festival was a real treat. I opted for the main Festival Marquee for the night and was saturated in sound from the quiet revolution. Kicking off with Nathaniel Rateliff, followed by The Low Anthem and Iron and Wine.

I woke up this morning, a bit jaded from the late night post-show session but with the firm thought in my head that I’ve found my dream festival of all time, and that’s not the Guiness talking! A combination of great acts organised by a passionate trio in the amazing city of Belfast. If I’m honest, I’m a bit overwhelmed by the whole experience so far, it has gone well …

Phosphorescent have re-released this years’ critically acclaimed album Here’s to Taking It Easy in the UK (6th September) through Dead Oceans. This coincides with the Brooklyn band’s UK live dates in September, full details of the tour are below, with support by Canada’s Timber Timbre.

Rachael Dadd is an artist that we are fond of here at FRUK. When I last met Rachael, which by chance happened to be on a near-deserted beach on the Gower peninsula, she mentioned she had a new EP due out so here’s the news:

Matador records are going all out with the launch of Belle and Sebastians forthcoming album Write About Love due out on October 12th. Last week saw the launch of the first in a series of televisual transmissions of varying sizes and shapes from Matador to mark the album’s impending release. Here’s the first one which features two new tracks from the album: “I Want The World To Stop” and “I …
