Will Sheff of Okkervil River recently played a solo show at The Living Room in New York, during which he treated the crowd to two new songs “Walked Out On A Line” and “Lay of the Last Survivor” which you can watch below. His label, Jagjaguwar are not giving anything away on whether the songs will appear on the next Okkervil River record. Although I’d hazard a guess that there …
We recently posted about the release of Black Mountain’s new album Wilderness Heart. The band have just released a new video for “The Hair Song” which was directed by Zoe Bower and Simon Chan. It tells a great story based around those coming of age years that many of you may remember…how can you forget?…or you’re having those hassles right now such as being shut out of clubs and having …
Nathaniel Rateliff of Denver will be making his first debut appearance in Ireland this week at the Open House Festival in Belfast. Nathaniel will be performing on Wednesday 8th September at the Festival Marquee, a performance that I’m personally looking forward to seeing this week. This will be a great highlight of the festival as the crowd will also be treated to Iron and Wine and Low Anthem in the …
The Cave Singers have a unique sound that is unmistakeable. Since first releasing Dancing on our Graves they have been causing a stir. There is a raw energy in their music more akin to that of an Old Time band. Their music isn’t complicated and Derek’s guitar picking along with Pete’s vocals and Marty’s percussion create a simple sound that is both original and captivating.
The Duke & The Kings debut album Nothing Gold Can Stay was one of 2009s most acclaimed albums, with its heady mix of rootsy folk-rock and vintage soul earning comparisons with artists ranging from Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young to Sly & The Family Stone. Little over a year later, the band lead by Simone Felice and Bobbie Bird Burke prepare for the September 27th release of their second album, …
The Let’s Colour Project is an initiaitve by some big paint companies to bring colour to grey areas around the world. They have currently worked in Brazil, France, the UK and India with local communities to transform and brighten up grey spaces. Something most of us are all too familiar with. There is nothing more depressing then being faced with grey concrete so I’m all in favour of transforming such …
Silje Nes was recently filmed by the fabulous Blogotheque in Toronto on her recent North American tour with DM Stith (see, I told you his name keeps cropping up), for one of their Take Away shows. Silje performs a wonderful, stripped-down, acoustic guitar, voice and viola rendition of the track Symmetry of Empty Space (taken from her forthcoming full-length Opticks). The sunshine and atmosphere was perfect for the song. They …
Country rock five-piece Ahab will be performing a showcase set in Camden, London, on Sunday 5 September. Entry to the gig is free and everyone’s welcome. Ahab recently stole the show at Cropredy festival performing to a crowd of nearly 20,000 people. A track from their soon-to-be-released EP featured on Bob Harris’s BBC Radio 2 show last Saturday and they are booked for a live session on Bob’s show soon.
The name DM Stith has been cropping up a lot recently. I used his track “Pigs” in the Rain on Moss mix I did back in April and since then I just keep seeing his name, most recently for doing the artwork for the album cover of The Loom and now this session he did for La Blogotheque as part of their NxNE series. Bio: David Stith comes from a …
