Duffy x Uhlmann — Meg Duffy of Hand Habits and Gregory Uhlmann — announce their second album “Hot Creek”, out 14 August on Orindal Records, and share new single “Public Life”. Taking Adrienne Rich’s “dream of a common language” as its frame, the duo reach for each other with two guitars on a record named after a Californian geothermal spring.

A. Lee Edwards carried a line from an old newspaper editorial in his wallet for years; it became “Without You”, the new single from his forthcoming album “Interpreting Heart Sounds, Vol. II”. Mixed by John Wood at Echo Mountain in Asheville, it’s hushed, string-forward folk about lost love and the disappearance of mill towns and a whole way of life.

Alex Dupree shares “I Can See Her In Your Eyes,” a country duet with Jolie Holland and the third single from “Talking to the Dog,” out August 14th via Scissor Tail Records. Two voices circle the same relational dead end from opposite sides — one still hung up on an old love, the other reading it plainly.

Bitchin Bajas give their “Isle Peaks” EP a wide release on August 28th via Drag City, after an initial Qobuz-exclusive run. Vinyl and cassette add the physical-only track “Watch Your Step”. The three cuts, pulled from the “Inland See” sessions and recorded to analogue tape, move between krautrock and new age. New US and European tour dates are also announced.

Lüüp premiere the video for “Horse Heart”, the opening track of “Meadow Rituals”, reissued as a 15th-anniversary 3CD expanded edition on Tadoma Records. Stelios Romaliadis’s 2011 album returns remastered from analogue tape, with live sets from two different line-ups and the full remix album. Lisa Isaksson’s voice against a double bass, hypnotising as it was fifteen years ago.

The KLOF No. 90 mixtape turns back to the 1970s for three tracks from Martin Carthy’s “Along The Road Forever: Live at the BBC”, a 20-CD box set out today via Madfish: Cambridge Folk Festival 1977, a John Peel Session from 1976, St Albans Folk Club 1973. Plus new releases from Seu Jorge, Elanor Moss, Trá Pháidín, Biita Houdei, Jake Xerxes Fussell, Sairie, Two Runner and lots more.

Emil Friis has released “Hollow Hands”, a four-track EP recorded in his Copenhagen studio through the autumn of 2025, following his album “Moving Images”. The Danish composer reshapes the sound of the piano itself, running it through ribbon microphones, Moog filters and a Wellspring reverb, with field recordings from southern Italy deepening the atmosphere. Kevin Brooks directs the accompanying film.

Rowena Wise picks ten objects from her home ahead of her second album, “Bad Things Feel Good*”. A monocular she whips out like a cowboy to watch birds. A wizard lamp that glows red while she records. Stones from a Portuguese beach. Her first guitar, nylon-strung, made by her father. Revealing and surprising from the start.

Horse Feathers have shared a demo of “Like Lavender”, recorded in one solitary take in a stairwell in NE Portland, ahead of the 20th anniversary reissue of “Words Are Dead” on August 28th via Kill Rock Stars. Justin Ringle wrote the song as he was crashing out of his old life in Idaho — a small portrait of a heartbroken young man.

We chat to Derek Piotr about his Fieldwork Archive, featuring over 2,000 field recordings. The New England-based folklorist, performer and composer discusses recording total strangers, many of whom have never sung into a microphone before — to elevate someone for a minute to the status of a musician and record a clip of them… and have them celebrated in discussion and reflection… is a huge triumph to me. 

Hana Stretton has shared “Before This”, an AA single pairing “As It Was Before This” with “Seagull Theory II”, from her second album “tiarn”, out August 7th. Lima Limo and Inpartmaint have announced a joint vinyl edition for Europe and Japan. Self-recorded in a small Australian beach town, the album came out of blue-hour swims and whale migrations.
