Hana Stretton has shared From, the final single from tiarn, her second album, out on August 7th. It arrives alongside news that P.W. Elverum & Sun will release a special edition of the album, with Phil Elverum writing: “I’m so excited to be able to help again usher Hana’s incredible recording worlds into ours.”
The single was made during a dark storm. Stretton opened all the windows and recorded it with her dog Roo asleep next to her, using a hairbrush on the guitar alongside synth and a tiny harp. “I realise now that it’s about weathering our own storms without hardening,” she says. “To keep reaching for warmth and kindness in our stubbornly sharp world.”
The accompanying video was filmed by her sister Amelia Lander.
tiarn is self-released, with vinyl handled territory by territory: P.W. Elverum & Sun in North America, Lima Limo and Inpartmaint for Europe and Japan, and Brierfield Flood Press in Australia. The special edition marks a deepening relationship between Stretton and Elverum, who reissued her 2023 debut Soon on his label in 2024, calling it “a breathtaking internal world held in sound.”
From follows the AA single Before This, which paired As It Was Before This with Seagull Theory II — two songs born from Stretton’s decision to stop working alone and eventually join regional Australian choir Forest Creek Folk. Where those tracks traced a movement outward, into community and shared voices, From returns to something solitary: classical and electronic arrangements reaching toward the Pacific Ocean from the tiny beach town where the album was made.
Stretton tours Europe and North America from September, with dates in Dublin, Glasgow, London, Chicago, Montreal and Brooklyn among others.
