Flora Hibberd has shared Shelley, the latest track from Mammoth, her second album, due 16th October via 22TWENTY. A video arrives with it, filmed in Paris and elsewhere, “in summer with the pals”.
The song is built on lush minor-key chord progressions, with pedal steel guitar played with Stew Crookes of The Weather Station and interwoven harmonies between Hibberd and backing vocalist J.E. Sunde. It sits in a different corner of the album to the synth-led Ache or the brass of the title track — country-folk-tinged indie, poetic in its references but direct with it.
Hibberd calls it “a song for the Shelley in your life, or Duvall, or Percy Bysshe.. a boxing match around the kitchen table. Lush country in the creepy sense.”
The video keeps to that domestic scale. Hibberd plays with her band, takes reflective moments on her own, and wanders a park with an ice cream: friends, places, fleeting joys.
Shelley is the third preview of Mammoth, following Ache, which has Sufjan Stevens on vocals, and the title track. Ben Lanz (The National, Beirut) produced the ten-track album, a set of songs about ghosts, time and life in the neighbourhood, closing on the traditional Hares On The Mountain. It follows 2025’s Swirl, recorded in Eau Claire, Wisconsin with Shane Leonard.
KLOF premiered Hibberd’s debut single The Absentee in March 2019, a month before the EP that followed it. Since then Cerys Matthews has had her into Maida Vale for a BBC Radio 6 Music session, and this year she has played two shows at The Great Escape and supported Beirut across Europe. She plays Berlin’s PEOPLE Festival in October, and returns to the UK in November.
