Emily A. Sprague has shared “Double Moon“, a new single accompanied by a video created by long-time visual collaborator V Haddad. The track is the lead offering from the Double Moon EP, due May 29th via RVNG Intl.
Sprague’s solo work has occupied a distinctive space within the modular synthesis world, drawing comparisons to the Japanese environmental tradition and the naturalist lineage of Pauline Oliveros. Her 2025 album Cloud Time — recorded live during her debut tour of Japan — was among KLOF’s Albums of the Year, praised for its deeply contemplative improvisations and refreshingly human quality. 2025 also saw the release of Jellywish, the fifth album from her indie band Florist, via Double Double Whammy.
“Double Moon” represents a shift in Sprague’s approach, moving towards greater intricacy and expressive depth. The track layers incantatory repetitions over translucent washes of modular synth, with Haddad contributing backing vocals that seem to hover at the edges of the composition. Sounds appear and vanish across the track’s arc, each phrase revolving around the next in a constant state of emergence and dissolution. It is music that feels both precise and instinctual, its warmth and melodic detail tempered by a gripping sense of forward motion.
Haddad’s accompanying video extends the song’s atmosphere into visual terrain, continuing a collaborative relationship that has spanned multiple Sprague releases, including the “Tokyo 1” visual and Florist’s Jellywish artwork.
The Double Moon EP will feature the title track alongside “Dusk (How to Fly)”, exclusive to the physical 7″, and a dub version of “Double Moon” by Australian producer Andras.
