As we mentioned in our recent interview, Mama’s Broke, featuring Amy Lou Keeler and Lisa Maria, make deliciously dark folk music inspired by their Nova Scotian roots, the Appalachian tradition and Eastern European tunes. Today marks the release of their new album Reunion, on Free Dirt Records/Forward Music Group (order via Bandcamp). To celebrate, the duo have shared a stunning new video for Wildflowers.
Combining stop motion animation by Lisa Maria, made from leaves, seeds, and flowers with live footage, shot by Emma Ledgerwood in New Orleans, they have managed to visually capture the song’s essence, described in Thomas Blake’s album review as “a stunningly beautiful, lyrically enigmatic ballad with a deceptively simple acoustic guitar at its heart.” He adds, “It builds into a passionate and at times angry cry of grief at the state of the natural world and the way man has mistreated it.”
