Our Song of the Day is from Colin Macleod, someone you may know under his previous guise of ‘The Boy Who Trapped The Sun’ who brought critical acclaim and high profile support slots with the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Snow Patrol after signing to Geffen Records in 2010 and releasing his label debut ‘Fireplace’. The song ‘California’ will be released as a single on Monday 3rd March 2014.
A lot has changed since those days although and I think I’d rather be where he is now. Returning to the Isle of Lewis in 2011, the intervening years have seen Macleod settle in a remote croft and approach his work with a renewed creative vigour. Recorded at his home studio and in a converted old green bus overlooking the ocean, ‘The Anchor EP’ marks his boldest and most coherent artistic statement to date. Drawing heavily on his native surroundings, the four track offering covers a diverse range of themes, showcasing a maturing quality of craft and a broadening lyrical depth. This is perfectly illustrated on ‘California’, with its beautifully languid delivery proving there is a West Coast bond whichever side of the Atlantic you live on.
Colin also made a strong return to the live circuit across 2013, with a host of triumphant UK festival appearances, as well as completing a tour of Sweden and selected dates in Norway, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
He is signed to the small Scottish label Middle of Nowhere Recordings which is also home to Rachel Sermanni, Pete Roe & Roddy Hart & The Lonesome Fire…he’s in great company.
