Green Man Festival is proud to present Hwyl: a unique St David’s Day celebration taking over Cecil Sharp House in London for a magical night of Welsh merriment.
The award-winning independent festival will decamp from the Black Mountains of the Brecon Beacons to transform the famous Camden folk venue from 2pm to midnight on Saturday March 1st 2014.
With live sets from BBC Radiophonic Workshop, 9 Bach, Pictish Trail, Valleyers and The Gentle Good (Album of the Month), expect great music and mystical storytelling washed down with lip-smacking Welsh real ales, intoxicating ciders and hearty local grub.
Fiona Stewart, owner and director of Green Man, says: “We’ll be celebrating St David’s Day in style by bringing all of the mischief and magic of Green Man up the M4 to the legendary Cecil Sharp House for a unique, one-off Welsh knees-up.
“There’ll be a real festival feel to the day, combining Welsh arts and culinary delights with superb live music from some of Green Man’s closest friends. Just like the Green Man, ‘Hwyl’ will be packed full of Welsh culture, crafts and culinary delights, there will be talks, theatre, comedy, and lots more.”
Hwyl is a lyrical Welsh term for a stirring feeling of emotional motivation and energy. More simply, it also means ‘fun’. Pronounced ‘hoyle’, it’s the perfect name for our party.
Fiona adds: “Like Green Man itself, Hwyl promises to be a party quite unlike any you’ve been to before. It’s the perfect excuse to kick up your heels and be inspired by Welsh songs and merriment.”
Hwyl takes place at Cecil Sharp House, Regents Park Road, London, from 2pm to midnight on Saturday March 1st 2014. Tickets are £25 with much more to be announced in the coming months.
