Mali Obomsawin

Mali Obomsawin announces “Automatic,” her second solo album, out October 16th via Out Of Your Head Records. Pairing her voice with archival Abenaki recordings processed by turntablist Andrew Broder, the eight-track album grew from a disorienting period following her breakout debut “Sweet Tooth.” Collaborators include Taylor Ho Bynum and guitarist Magdalena Abrego of Deerlady. Title track out now.

Jake Blount & Mali Obomsawin’s Symbiont is a magical fusion of natural beauty, fragility, turbulence and ever-evolving motion. It is awe-inspiring, a ball of chance and wonder, much like the planet Earth.

As well as being a clarion call and a beacon of defiance, Mali Obomsawin’s ‘Sweet Tooth’ is one of those albums that utterly defy expectation or convention – it occupies its own universe, arriving from leftfield to blow your mind.

Listen to Odana by Wabanaki composer, songwriter, and bassist Mali Obomsawin. It opens her new album ‘Sweet Tooth’, a suite for Indigenous resistance that flies in the face of Western tropes that insist Indigenous cultures are monolithic, trapped in time.
