Jay Hammond

Tried To Do’s, Jay Hammond’s second album as Trippers & Askers, follows the jazz-inflected sprawl of ‘Acorn’ with something more introverted and song-based. Shaped by acute personal grief and the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in Asheville, the album turns inward without losing generosity. It’s a slow-burning, finespun record of bold sincerity and steady groundedness.

Trippers & Askers new album, Tried to Do’s, is out May 8th via Sleepy Cat Records. Lead track Kin traces tangled threads of family and cultural inheritance in Jackson, Tennessee, setting the tone for Jay Hammond’s most personal album — an intimate song cycle exploring Buddhist and Christian ways of mourning, featuring Andy Stack (Wye Oak), Joe Westerlund, Stephanie Coleman, Joseph Decosimo and more.

Defying expectations…Jay Hammond’s Trippers & Askers collective has created something groundbreaking and completely unexpected. Acorn is not simply the tale of a new start, through this music it has become an unexpected pathway to new lines of thought and communication.

Our Song of the Day is ‘Making Forests’, the latest single from Trippers and Askers’ Octavia Butler sci-fi inspired concept album ‘Acorn’, featuring members of Wye Oak, Califone, Elephant Micah and Sun Ra.
