Our Song of the Day comes from an Irish duo that I never tire of hearing – Brothers Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn, better known as Ye Vagabonds. Here they are performing Tuirse Mo Chroí during Sidmouth Folk Week this year.

Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band hit the road in December with their festive Carols & Capers Tour – A mixture of early music, hymnal settings, ribald reeling, trouser-bursting exuberance and quite a lot of accomplished musicianship.

Organizing body, Hands Up for Trad have announced the artists shortlisted for this year’s MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards. Many of the artists and bands nominated have featured on Folk Radio UK over the past year.

Lisa Knapp will be performing Till April is Dead this week on Thursday, 8th November at London’s The Albany. It promises to be a very special evening as she will be performing with a full band. Not to be missed.

Kathryn Williams announces a new boxset – Kathryn Williams Anthology. She has been compiling the release over the past couple of years and it covers her work from Dog Leap Stairs to Hypoxia and everything in-between.

Salt House fans will be pleased to learn that they are getting down to some new writing next week. They have some concert dates this month and have also just announced a Celtic Connections show on Jan 31st followed by a German tour in March.

As the WWI centenary events wind down, the Lancastrian folk trio Harp and a Monkey are preparing to undertake a run of performances that are likely to provide audiences with the last chance to see the ‘War Stories’ show performed in its entirety for quite some time.
