Perhaps the most delicious element of Raised By Wolves is the lack of resolution. Lyrically Ritter occupies the thin line in-between pain and pleasure, the hinterland where pack animals are as comfortable together as they are alone. The album is fun, feisty and on the odd occasion, feral.

FRUK talks to Stornoway’s principle songwriter, guitarist and Doctor of Ornithology Brian Briggs about their new album Bonxie an album that features the sounds of around 20 different species of bird. We also learn of his love for South Wales where he currently resides.

Olivia Chaney’s been acclaimed as a major talent by media and critics, and naturally expectations have run high for the eventual release of a full-length album. This is probably one of the longest-awaited debut albums in the recent history of Brit-folk. She doesn’t disappoint.

Irish Traveller singer Thomas McCarthy heads to Scotland in May for a three-date tour which takes in Aberdeen Folk Club, Edinburgh Tradfest and Glasgow’s Glad Cafe. He was recently filmed singing for the BBC Series ‘Call the Midwife’.

We catch up with Jess Morgan who’s been busy as ever with a recent trip to America and she reveals a number of collaborations she has lined up including Stylusboy and The Hut People. Jess is on tour from this month so try and make it to one of her gigs.

Our Song of the Day is ‘Pine‘ from the talented Breda Mayock whose eponymous album is one of our featured albums this month. Talking about the song in his review of the album Simon said “I swear, hearts within a two mile radius have melted in the fallout.”

With a little help from Sam Lakeman and Boo Hewerdine, The Changing Room’s debut Behind The Lace proves a brilliant tribute to the sun, sea and salt air of the Cornish southwest. It is one of those delightful little gems, one you should all seek out.

Our Song of the Day is from London-based singer songwriter Nigel Brown with a new song called Grasshopper which he is planning to use on his new forthcoming album Time Looks On. A sorrowful tale which begins with quitting school young, working hard on the land and the arrival of four daughters…but life is far from plain sailing.

On the Demon Barbers latest offering a bewildering array of styles is woven into the pieces, as traditional folk songs are reinterpreted with a contemporary dance music twist. Overlaid by Damien Barber’s powerful, passionate vocal, it all results in a stunning collection of foot-tapping brilliance.
