Riffing off 70’s soul while recounting the ICE raids in Los Angeles during June 2025, Big Trouble, the Los Angeles based project led by Justin Kohlberg (Moonrun) and Daniel Talamantes, have shared their new single Dange, ahead of On Elephant Hill, their forthcoming album on Royal Oakie Records, out on September 18th 2026.
Dange comes straight out of Los Angeles in June 2025, when ICE was raiding Latine communities. There’s nothing poetically complicated about it. It’s about a very real, localized fear and the normalization of such surveillance. It has that 70s aesthetic that matched our message. We called on friends from across the US to add that late-night energy.
– Daniel Talamantes
The touchstones for the album are deep and far-ranging, lyrically inspired by Carl Jung, W.B. Yeats, and Ricardo Flores Mágon, as well as Talamantes’s activism in environmental and social justice; while musically calling to mind Kate Bush, Juan Gabriel, and Paul McCartney, as well as the studio experimentation of Talk Talk, Brian Eno, and Broken Social Scene.
