Babehoven share Three Reds, the latest single from their forthcoming third album I See Them, I See Me, due September 18th via Double Double Whammy. The track arrives with a video featuring animation by Constant Gordon and photos by Erin Miller.
The Hudson, New York duo — singer/songwriter Maya Bon and producer/multi-instrumentalist Ryan Albert — named the song after a game they play on tour, counting passing cars of the same colour. “The song plays with synesthesia and the tension between concealment and exposure,” Bon explains, “sitting with the idea that we are made of the same stuff as everything that came before us, and how that can feel like both a warning and a celebration at the same time.”
I See Them, I See Me follows 2024’s Water’s Here In You. This time Bon and Albert opened up their process, recording across four studios with engineers Sam Evian, Kevin Copeland, and Phil Weinrobe, who also co-produced. Much of the album was live-tracked with a six-person ensemble. Weinrobe insisted on no playback, no headphones, no preparation. The sound has shifted too — slide guitar and fiddle sit alongside a vocal twang Bon says pays homage to Emmylou Harris and Patsy Cline.
The album’s fourteen tracks probe what Bon and Albert call a “parallax view” — different ways of seeing the same reality. During their first headline tour in 2024, Bon suffered paralysis of her right vocal cord. She was told she might never sing again. “I have so much gratitude now that I am able to sing again,” she says. “To not only sing, but to sing with joy.”
Three Reds follows previous singles Blue Around You and Lasagna.
