The Bevis Frond today share the music video for Romany Blue, a wistful melodic pop gem lifted from their 27th album Horrorful Heights, released on April 3rd via Fire Records. The clip lands off the back of a sell-out European run and just weeks before the band’s UK tour, which begins at Just Dropped In Records in Coventry on June 4th.
Directed by Italian filmmaker and long-time fan Roberto Beani (il pilastro, 2025), the video was shot in Bologna with a deliberately retro visual grammar. “My first Bevis Frond concert was during my childhood — it was an incredible live show and I’ve been a fan ever since,” Beani explains. “I’m immensely proud to have the opportunity to produce a music video for Nick. I wanted to use an Academy-style 1.37 aspect ratio, something that reminded me of the 4/3 aspect ratio of the ’90s. I chose a handheld camera, shooting some scenes in slow motion.”
Romany Blue draws comparisons with Teenage Fanclub, a tuneful counterpoint to the heavier guitar workouts elsewhere on the album. As we noted when the album was announced last December, Horrorful Heights sees Nick Saloman joined by long-time drummer Dave Pearce and guitarist Paul Simmons, with new bassist Louis Wiggett bringing fresh colour via pedal steel on Best Laid Plans and Momma Bear.
A companion outtakes collection, Horrorful Offal, is available as part of a deluxe edition exclusively through Rough Trade and Fire Records. A limited-edition signed That’s Your Lot 7″ is also available to pre-order.
