Alongside tracks from some of our most recently reviewed albums, this week’s Monday Morning Brew also features new music from Ana Lua Caiano, Le Ren, Paolo Angeli, Laura Veirs, Mairearad Green, and more.
Are you new to the music of Ana Lua Caiano, the Lisbon experimentalist who refuses to stay in a square? Her 2024 debut, Vou Ficar Neste Quadrado, was one of my Albums of the Year. Her surreal, self-directed videos often air traditional visual elements with contemporary ones, conveying a sense of empowerment that is both inspirational and confrontational. She has a new album arriving in late 2026.
Being a Bank Holiday, Uma Vida A Menos is a timely first single from her forthcoming second album. The track is a sharp reflection on the limited time people are afforded for leisure, capturing the collective urge to escape the routines and pressures of everyday work life — always waiting for the weekend, the next day off, or the next holiday.
Ana Lua Caiano’s path to her 2024 debut was anything but linear. Classical piano lessons as a child gave way to four years of jazz school, yet neither discipline offered the freedom she was after.
