Aaron MF Olson has shared Who Do You Think You Are I Am?, the second single from Songs Album II, out June 26th via Country Thyme Records. It follows lead single “Nobody Can Tell”, which we covered in April.
The LA musician records as L.A. Takedown, writes for film and television — most recently scoring Matt Hewitt’s indie horror Hoagie — and here returns to what he calls “sung songs,” his second such collection in just over a decade.
“Who Do You Think You Are I Am?” is described as a rough-and-tumble pop progression. A nifty satirical musing on lived reality’s implosion among our internet’s pitiless rage galleries. As universal values dissolve in an incident of viral upset, immaculate ‘50s/60s hooks are ground into glittering noir. The chorus carries the bruised glow of a breaking heart, its tender natural imagery undercut by a comic punchline: “I am the window, you are the breeze. I am the pollen, you are the sneeze.”
Matt Hewitt, who also directed “Nobody Can Tell”, returns behind the camera, with animation by Tyler Bjarke – “a karaoke-within-karaoke simulation that renders Aaron like a long-lost PS1 mascot in low-poly 3D.”
He plays an album release show before the record lands:
June 24th — Los Angeles, CA @ Zebulon — Album Release Show, w/ Jeff Parker & Patrick Shiroishi, DJ Rockin’ Rian Murphy
