There are some satisfying threads running through this week’s mixtape. Fust and Sluice share band members, and with Sluice’s exceptional Companion album having recently landed — one that comes highly recommended — it makes sense to bring both groups into the fold. Brown Wimpenny get a double helping this week too, fresh off the announcement of their debut album; two tracks here offer an early sense of what’s coming.
The week’s most anticipated release, however, is Wendy Eisenberg‘s self-titled album, which drops tomorrow on Joyful Noise. They get two tracks in this week’s playlist — a fitting preview. Thomas Blake recently described Eisenberg as “one of the most talented musical artists of their generation,” and the album looks set to bear that out.
Elsewhere, the playlist draws on a strong run of recent KLOF reviews: Plankton Wat‘s Vanishing World, Brown Horse‘s Total Dive, Tommy Peltier‘s Echo Park and Glyders‘ Forever all feature. Filling out the remaining slots are Frog, Big Thief, Steve Gunn, Ohtis, Naima Bock, CIAO MALZ, Sandman Project and Blue Lake — a broad and dependable spread that holds the playlist together across its extended run in time for the extra-long Bank Holiday weekend.
