David Moore, the visionary leader behind the minimalist ensemble Bing & Ruth, has long been a master of “atmospheric suspension.” However, his upcoming album, Graze the Bell (arriving January 30, 2026, via RVNG Intl.), strips away the ensemble layers to reveal his most intimate work yet: a sanctuary of solo piano. To herald the release, Moore has shared a stunning visual for the lead single, “Offering.”
On “Offering,” Moore approaches the piano like a shaman with a rattle. The track is less a song and more a conduit—a meditative inquiry into the human condition. Moore describes the piece as an extension of his quest to “move through harmony like water using an instrument that is very much like stone.” His performance is marked by a “trembling” of keys in free time, creating a flickering power that feels both mercurial and ancient.
The accompanying video, directed by Nick Vranizan, is a technical marvel that eschews generative AI in favour of human impulse. Expanding on the album’s cover art—a photograph Moore painstakingly cross-stitched by hand—the film uses a “stitch-resolution” aesthetic that mimics the tactile nature of embroidery.
“We decided early on to shun any form of generative AI,” Moore notes. “What Nick’s created here is not just something beautiful… but also a passage to understanding the music on a deeper level.”
Vranizan’s visuals push into the frame until subjects dissolve into abstract blocks of colour, mirroring the way Moore’s melodies muse into relief like “fish leaping in the air.” It is a rare marriage of sound and sight that feels like navigating a memory.
David Moore will celebrate the release of Graze the Bell with a performance at Roulette in Brooklyn, NY, on February 12, 2026.
