Portland, Oregon-based singer-songwriter Laura Veirs is set to release her new live album, Laura Veirs And The Choir Who Couldn’t Say (Live In Angoulême) next month on October 10 via her own label, Raven Marching Band. The recording captures a remarkable May 2025 performance where Veirs was joined by a French school choir of 32 students, ages 12-18, at a special concert in Angoulême, France.
The album features 14 of Veirs’ songs, as well as one track from her collaborative project with k.d. lang and Neko Case, case/lang/veirs. The unique arrangements were created by the choir’s director, Patrice Cleyrat, a longtime fan of Veirs who previously orchestrated a similar concert in 2006. The students dedicated nine months to rehearsing before joining Veirs on stage for the recorded performance.
Veirs recently shared the video for ‘Shape Shifter’ from her 2013 album Warp & Weft.
“Hearing their brave and soulful renditions of my songs and performing with them was a career highlight,” recalls Veirs. “I’m so glad we were able to capture the magic of this performance and can share it with the world in the form of this new album.”
The album, co-produced by Veirs and Cleyrat, is a testament to international artistic collaboration, with the recording captured in France and the mastering completed in Portland. Veirs, Cleyrat, and the choir are planning to reunite for another concert in Paris in early 2026, followed by solo shows for Veirs throughout France.
