Fruit Bats shares new single ‘Creature From the Wild’

“I’ve always wanted to write a dog song. I lost my dog this spring. He was a Mexican street dog and a wild animal and a true gentleman. A real swashbuckling spirit."

Fruit Bats, the musical project of GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Eric D. Johnson, has released “Creature From The Wild,” a heartfelt new single honouring the recent loss of his beloved dog. The track is a touching, relatable homage to the profound impact a pet has on one’s life.

“I’ve always wanted to write a dog song. I lost my dog this spring,” Johnson shared. “He was a Mexican street dog and a wild animal and a true gentleman. A real swashbuckling spirit. This is a hero song about him and his legend.”

“Creature From The Wild” will appear on the forthcoming album Baby Man, set for release on September 12th via Merge Records. The new collection is a departure for Fruit Bats, featuring ten raw, solo songs with Johnson’s expressive vocals front and centre, accompanied simply by guitar or piano.

In a fitting tribute, all Bandcamp proceeds from the single and a portion of digital album pre-orders through September 11th will benefit Baja Street Dogs, an organisation dedicated to rescuing animals like the one that inspired the song.
