The latest Lost in Transmission mix was initially inspired by Colombia’s Meridian Brothers after hearing Metamorfosis from their forthcoming new album Meridian Brothers & El Grupo Renacimiento. The album “…excavates the forgotten sounds of the fantastical 1970s salsa dura group El Grupo Renacimiento. The group identifies as “B-class” salsa whose music explores human struggles in the urban city landscape, with themes such as police brutality, social marginalization, and addiction.”
We head to France with Serge Gainsbourg, Trinidad with Cyril Diaz & His Orchestra, Jamaica with The Pioneers, Dennis Alcapone, Ken Boothe and Stanley Beckford, Ghana (1973) with Honny & the Bees Band, Malawi with the recently reviewed Madalitso Band and Colombia with a host of performers including Pedro Laza y Sus Pelayeros, Lucho Bermúdez y Su Orquesta and even Calexico add some Cumbia flavour.
Enjoy!
