Rowan : Morrison have announced their new album ‘Bride of the Wintertide‘. The duo features alt-folk songwriter, singer and musician Stephen Stannard, who performs under the name of The Rowan Amber Mill and Angeline Morrison, whose forthcoming new project (The Sorrow Songs : Folk Songs of Black British Experience) we had a brief taste of on the latest KLOF mix here on Folk Radio.
Bride of the Wintertide is the third album in their trilogy of winter-themed albums (following on from Silent Night Songs for a Cold Winter’s Evening and Fields of Frost). The latter was reviewed on Folk Radio by David Kidman – “Fields Of Frost is an artefact of characteristic dark beauty…ever looking both back and forward, cherishing and nurturing the promise of the coming spring and rejuvenation.”
On this new release, they promise songs ranging from carols, new and traditional folksong, a Christmas pop song, a song for Plough Monday, and more. Listen to the opening traditional folk song “The Snow it Melts the Soonest”.
In addition, they are also re-releasing (complete with new artwork) their Lost In Seaburgh album.
Both albums are available as Deluxe Editions with A4 posters (with liner notes on the reverse), art prints, metal badges, stickers, and CDr, all housed in deluxe metal tins. The Bride of the Wintertide Deluxe Edition also includes three exclusive bonus tracks. Both albums will start shipping out on the official release day of 10th December.
