The award-winning Irish singer-songwriter Declan O’Rourke shares a unique live video ahead of UK Tour in November.
Earlier this year, Declan O’Rourke released his Paul Weller-produced album Arrivals which Mike Davies described on Folk Radio as “an intimate listen, one that draws you into its musical and emotional orbit with the brushstrokes of a master craftsman.” It received stellar reviews across the music press and radio, with BBC Radio 2’s Mark Radcliffe calling Declan “one of the most significant Irish singers and writers of his generation”.
Fellow musicians were also generous with their praise. The Who’s Pete Townshend commented, “It is a gem. Fabulous guitar and singing. Just love this Arrivals album’. Jerry Douglas said, ‘Declan O’Rourke is one of Ireland’s gifts to the world. He’s amazing’, and Paul Weller summed up: “He is in a field of his own, the roots are in the fertile tradition of folk music, (people’s music), but with that, he brings such modernity and timelessness to his words and music that is far, far-reaching. Beyond limiting categories.”
The album reached #2 in the Official Irish National Album Chart, #2 in the Official UK Folk Albums Chart and #4 in the Official UK Americana Chart.
Declan is to tour the UK this November in a 9-show run, dates for which are below. To accompany the tour announcement, he has shared a unique live performance recorded in July that we have the pleasure of premiering below.
In July 2021, as part of a TG4 series celebrating 70 years of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, Declan performed a unique version of ‘The Stars Over Kinvara’ from his new album ‘Arrivals’. In keeping with the traditional Irish celebration, Declan was accompanied by a trio of handpicked musicians, Alan Doherty (of Gráda, Aldoc, and Lord of The Rings fame) on flute and whistle, Swiss-born Anna Houston (No Crows) on Cello, and the renowned Dermot Byrne (of Altan) on box accordion.
