Declan O’Rourke talks about “Oceanic”, his eighth studio album, recorded in Sydney with Jim Moginie of Midnight Oil. Give an artist a palette of colours, he says, and “you can’t expect them to stick with yellow or red.” He also talks about finding his old classical guitar teacher after about ten years.

From his forthcoming studio album Oceanic, due out on October 16th, Declan O’Rourke has shared a thought-provoking new video for Earl Grey and Edwin, his third album single. About two kindred souls brought together by a love of music and art, it’s one of the most beautiful videos and songs I’ve seen/heard in a long time.

Declan O’Rourke shares “Echo”, the lead single from his eighth album “Oceanic”, due 16 October. Produced with Jim Moginie of Midnight Oil, it’s a beefy, robust rocker — and its video offers a first look at “Almost With You”, the Australian feature in which O’Rourke makes his screen acting debut, premiering at Galway Film Fleadh on 9 July.

Chronicles of the Great Irish Famine took Declan O’Rourke 15 years to put together but the result was more than worth the wait. With a 9-piece band including Dermot Byrne, Gino Lupari and Mike McGoldrick the album tells stories of the famine in both a moving and evocative way.
