Back in November, we interviewed Reveal Records Founder Tom Rose who was celebrating 15 Years of Reveal Records. His calendar was proof enough that there was no let-up in the creative out-pourings from the label with new albums and music from Gramercy Arms, Benjamin Lazar Davis, Aidan O’Rourke, Boo Hewerdine, The Little Unsaid, GRIP TIGHT, Eamon O’Leary, State of The Union, Parker Kindred and over on the management side of things Joan As Police Woman collaboration with the late great Afro-Beat legend Tony Allen and The Invisibles’ Dave Okumu.
As part of that ongoing celebration, Tom asked DJ Adam Wilson to interview both Boo Hewerdine and Kris Drever on their latest releases. Boo has just released a new 20 song compilation album (Selected Works) sequenced by Tom and featuring many of Boo’s deepest cuts. The collection includes a new recording of The Village Bell with label mate Kris Drever and 2021 single The Language of Love alongside previously digital-only single tracks that appear for the first time on Compact Disc – Order it here.
Meanwhile, Kris chats about his last album ‘When The World is Thin’ (order it here) which was reviewed here by Billy Rough.
Themes of memory, resilience, fragility, and longing filter through the album, ensuring a somewhat ephemeral and reflective recording. Drever’s voice and delivery is as idiosyncratic and rich as ever. His sincere Scottish brogue is never mannered, always effortlessly natural. Where The World Is Thin is a charming album. Confident and mature in its content, and beautifully performed. A fine treat as the nights draw in.
Take a deep dive into both album releases below.
