With Paper Tigers, the fourth teaming of Boo Hewerdine and Brooks Williams as State of the Union, the creative spark shows no signs of diminishing – an unfussy vintage-sounding album played with simple, consummate ease by two outstanding artists.

We met Jenny Sturgeon and Boo Hewerdine to talk about their new Outliers album, a beautiful celebration of spontaneity and space, blending strong songwriting with acoustic arrangements and subtle electronics.

Jenny Sturgeon and Boo Hewerdine’s Outliers revels in the beauty of the remote. While conceived and recorded entirely online, it feels astonishingly close. The attention to detail and clarity of sound are incredible, and their contributions are clearly defined yet entirely in accord.

Our Song of the Day is ‘The Longest Day’, the lead single from Outliers, the new indie folk project from Jenny Sturgeon & Boo Hewerdine. Lyrically and musically, their stripped-back approach delivers surprising poetic depth.

Understudy, Boo Hewerdine’s tenth solo album, finds him in a reflective mood. Despite the title, he consistently proves, as he does here, that he’s second to no one.
