This ongoing video series ‘In the Archives with…’ from EFDSS is, as any of you have read my previous praises will know, fast becoming my favourite video instalment, although I admit that an uncut longer version would fulfil my appetite for crate-digging so much more.
That aside, the latest episode has landed and Nicola Kearey and Ian Carter, from Stick in the Wheel, are their special guests in the archive. They are keen, so the step ladder is out in know time to allow Nicola to search through those top shelves. They dig up some lovely gems including a boxful of self-released cassette tapes.
Their selections include:
‘Boris Becker’ and ‘This Old Town’ taken from 90 Minutes by Stanley Accrington. Self Released, 1991.
‘The Seasons’ by Peta Webb and Ken Hall, taken from their album ‘As Close As Can Be’, Fellside, 2000 (FECD155), which you can pick up on CD via Amazon for the bargain price of £91.50.
‘Byker Hill’ by The Young Tradition taken from the album The Young Tradition Sampler, Transatlantic Records, 1969…we featured them in a recent Folk Show here.
and
’30 Foot Trailer’ by The Watersons taken from the album ‘The Watersons’, Topic Records, 1966. A personal favourite…but then I love everything The Watersons did.
If that has whetted your musical appetite then check out our Folk Show.
Also, be sure to watch the latest video from Stick in the Wheel for Villon Song – sung in ‘cant’ – criminal underworld slang.
