The Magpie Arc is a new cross-Border band out of Sheffield and Edinburgh featuring the multi-award-winning talents and wide musical influences of Nancy Kerr, Martin Simpson, Adam Holmes, Tom A Wright (The Albion Band and Ashley Hutchings Morris-On Show) and Alex Hunter (Adam Holmes and The Embers).
There will be lots of new songs written. There may be some great covers, there may be some reworked traditional songs. There will be folk, and there may be blues. Possibly a bit of country, there may even be some rock ‘n’ roll. Whatever happens, it will be a musical mix of everything you could expect from such a lineup, from lush harmonies to intricate electric guitars, gorgeous fiddle lines and rock-solid bass and drums.
Formed as an idea, then some phone calls, then a get together, then the obligatory studio jams, the possibilities of the band being something very special indeed became obvious early on, and having been carefully manoeuvering around each member’s busy solo careers, a window of opportunity opened up to go into the studio during the summer.
Recorded and filmed live at the Silk Mill Studios in Staffordshire, the band’s first release from this session is the video for new song Autumn Leaves, also out Song of the Day:

Writing and rehearsing over the next three months they will be recording their first album early next year and this will be released to coincide with the band playing summer festivals and an autumn UK tour. The magpie takes flight, so keep up to speed with all the band news by following them:
