A songwriter whose name now escapes me once said that once a song is written it often takes on a life of its own. Whether that be once you release them into the world where they make numerous personal connections to listeners, striking chords with individuals through their own memories and experiences or sat in the singer’s desk, occasionally bubbling to the surface waiting for the right time and place to be released.
We’ve Got a Runner is one such song whose time is now due for a proper release into the world – it’s also our Song of the Day. Conceived by Gregory Ackerman after a breakup, he recorded it in his room and posted a demo on Soundcloud back in 2015, but he always wanted to resurrect it in the studio. The song is now the first single from “Stresslove” (Oct. 4th, Munich Records), Ackerman’s upcoming EP of tunes that were written as “love songs meant for those who had fallen out of love.” I have to add that I’ve had this song going around my head since I first heard it…despite the subject of break-up the song is bright and beautiful, a reflection maybe on the mad world of love and life – it could be a summer anthem; it will hook you in from start to finish. Outstanding.
We have the pleasure of sharing the accompanying video:
Gregory on the video:
“During the recording of this EP, we decided to take a video camera in with us in an attempt to film the process of recording. We didn’t know if we’d use the footage or not, but my brother, Eric, ended up cutting it together. Eric makes his own music videos for his project, Eric Ackerman, and I was pumped for the opportunity to have him put together a video for me. It turned out pretty nice, so we wanted to release it to the world to give an inside look at our process. You’ll see Keenan McDaniel (drums), Eric Ackerman (supporting vocals, guitar, harmonica, piano), and Pierre de Reeder (producer) in the video along with me, helping me every step of the way.”
Gregory Ackerman’s four-song EP“Stresslove” is out Oct. 4th from Munich Records. The “We’ve Got a Runner” single is available now.
