Kicking off this week’s show is Karine Polwart with her new single ‘Ophelia’ from her forthcoming album ‘Laws of Motion’ which is out on 19th October via Hudson Records (read our news piece on it here).
We also have forthcoming new releases from Kitty MacFarlane, her debut album ‘Namer of Clouds‘ is out on September 21 (via Navigator Records). Eddi Reader‘s new album Cavalier is out on September 28 via Reveal Records and Mairearad Green and Anna Massie also have a new album dropping at the end of this month called Farran (the Scots word for the starboard side of a boat). Fans of the duo will be familiar with many of the tunes and songs featured as the album sets out to represent exactly what they perform live (without all the humourous banter from Anna).
We have two tracks from Mike Vass‘ latest album Notes from the Boat which we reviewed here. We give you a small taster of what’s to come from Mawkin‘s forthcoming album Down Among the Dead Men which is out on October 5th – a solid traditional foundation and influenced by the swagger of 90s indie rock and Bellowhead-style brouhaha.
Hannah Rarity, the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2018 – releases her much anticipated debut album Neath the Gloaming Star on 2nd September 2018 (and it is a beautiful album) from which we’ve included the title track.
It’s also a pleasure to include new music from Co. Armagh siblings Barry and Laura Kerr’s new album Castor Bay as well as a track from the first single from Welsh traditional band Allan Yn Y Fan who will be celebrating their 22nd year on the road. The single will be released in September, followed by a major European tour in the Autumn (more on that soon).
