An eclectic and global punchy kick-ass mix this week shaped very much by a few double helpings from the likes of Jiggy, Trad.Attack!, TootArd, as well as some top tunes from Eliza Carthy, Martyn Bennett and more.

The Celtic Groove Foundation Presents: Big Sky – Biro Guiro
Kicking things off with an old Acid Croft favourite from the 2008 album Volume 1: The Source.
Jiggy – Taraka
From Jiggy’s debut album translate (reviewed here). Neil McFadyen concluded:
What Jiggy do most successfully is prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that music is the heart and soul of the thriving, all-embracing multi-cultural arts scene in the Irish Republic. Translate is an exceptional and intoxicating album that will find its way into the heart and soul of an ever-increasing audience.
Trad.Attack! – Kooreke
We fell in love with Estonian band Trad.Attack! at WOMAD this year, this is from their 2015 album Ah!
TootArd – Laissez Passer
TootArd are a young, trailblazing band from the Golan Heights, an area captured from Syria and occupied by Israel. The band deftly fuses Levant-tinted desert blues, melodic psych-rock, morphed reggae and classical Arabic modalities. Restless, buoyant and eclectic, their second album ‘Laissez Passer’, is their debut international release and one of the first such releases from their homeland.
TootArd have also just been confirmed for Celtic Connections (3 February 2018, at Drygate Brewery)
Nitin Sawhney – Red Shift
From ‘Live At Ronnie Scotts’ – out on Gearbox Records on 1stDecember. Recorded across a three-night residency at the legendary Ronnie Scott’s in Soho, London, during March 2016, the new live album is full of re-imaginings of old and new favourites, spanning many of Sawhney’s 10 studio albums and expertly melding flamenco, funk and Indian ragas while branching into primeval blues, tabla breakbeats, beatboxing and much more.
Jiggy – An Capall Dubh
