The latest video from Chris Wood offers a lighthearted look at life on the road for a touring musician. It has one of the most original openings I’ve seen in a while…a random discussion about life on the road turns to food and how ‘The Marks and Spencer’s New York Deli Pastrami Sandwich’ can be a guage of how good a day Chris may be having.
In case you missed it, Chris’s latest album ‘So Much to Defend‘ is one of our Featured Albums of the Month.
“Wood’s delivery is unhurried and deliberate, his lyrics are unashamedly earnest, and his concerns are moral and humane. In the hands of lesser musicians these themes may come across as overly sentimental, but with Wood the opposite is true.” (Read the full Review here)
As well as his album tour (see the dates below), Chris has also been kept busy producing the new Twelfth Day album ‘Cracks in the Room‘. Chris’s inventive and creative techniques helped them explore and hone their sound on new levels. The album is due for release on 7th April. He recently made a guest appearance with the duo at Celtic Connections which Neil McFadyen reviewed here.
Chris will also be making a special guest appearance on the Shake the Chains tour (25th Feb – Snape Maltings, Suffolk). The idea for the project came about when folk singer, songwriter and musician Greg Russell was writing a dissertation on the role of protest song; Greg appears briefly in the video above. As Thomas’s review of ‘So Much to Defend’ states “Even in the conscientious world of folk music, Wood is a significant force for good, both in an ethical sense and a musical one”. For someone who grew up using folk song as a social document, he seems the ideal choice for such a project.
So Much to Defend is released 27th January 2017 via R.U.F Records
