Sigur Rós are celebrating this year’s Summer Solstice a little differently. You are invited to join them on 24-hour ‘slow tv’ event being broadcast on Iceland’s national television which you can watch via youtube below..at the time of posting there was nearly 5000 viewers.
The event is a journey on route one a 1332km trip around Icelands coastal ring road. They gave this explanation about their reasons:
“in a day and age of instant gratification and everything moving so fast, we wanted to do the exact opposite,” says sigur rós’s jónsi birgisson. “slow tv is counter-active to the world we live in, in that it happens in real time and real slow.”
Accompanying the visual journey you can also here a soundtrack which is created “moment-by-moment via generative music software.” According to the description, the individual musical elements of unreleased song, and current sigur rós festival set opener, óveður, are seeded through the evolving music app bronze, to create a unique ephemeral sonic experience. headphones, external speakers and full-screen viewing are recommended.
