We’ve a video premiere from LA artist William Caleb Parker who, as well as being influenced by the folk music of the 60’s & 70’s, also looks to literature for inspiration. For Full Moon Rising he looked to pulitzer prize-winning novelist Marilynne Robinson and her 2004 novel Gilead. The song tells the tale of a grandson dealing with the death of a grandfather and a son dealing with the death of a father, with whom he had a difficult relationship.
Full Moon Rising features on Parker’s Marie EP into which he poured two years of songwriting, gathering influence from classic literature and famed novelists to bring his lyrics to life.
“I think I say things more straightforwardly than the norm,” says Parker of his lyrics. Gathering inspiration from the works of various authors, including Dostoyevsky and Robert Frost, Parker aims to tell a story with every song. “Sometimes before I start writing, I’ll go and read some Steinbeck in hopes that I can capture some of his tone.”
