If you’ve yet to discover the magic of the Appalachian folk music duo Anna and Elizabeth then you’re in for a real treat. Regular listeners to Folk Radio UK will certainly have heard tracks from their debut album which has been in our playlist since it landed here earlier this year. In his review of their album Thomas described it as “a rare album that is as intimate as it is ambitious and as idiosyncratic as it is reverential” (read the full album review here).
Whilst this duo may be new to many, plenty of you will be familiar with folk singer Alice Gerrard. She surprised and entertained many if us last year with the release of Follow The Music on Tompkins Square which was produced by M.C. Taylor (Hiss Golden Messenger). In Helen’s review of the album she said “it exudes a gentleness borne of strength, revealing its heart and soul, its depth and beauty, in its own sweet time, over successive listens.” (Read the full review here).
As you can read above, we pretty much loved these two albums, so to hear them both together is a real treat. Here they are performing Don’t Want to Die in the Storm, a traditional folk song that appeared on the duo’s album and has proven popular on this side of the water as well appearing on Lucy Ward’s album Single Flame.
