For those that enjoyed M.C. Taylor’s (Hiss Golden Messenger) fifth full-length album Lateness of Dancers there is more on offer by way of a three-song collection called Southern Grammar which will be released as very limited edition 12″ EP with a coupon for a full digital download.
According to M.C. Taylor two of the tracks that feature, namely Brother, Do You Know the Road? and He Wrote the Book, actually share a lyric which he was unaware of until he had gathered material for this release. He promises that “this is the first and only time that I have ever shared words between two songs.” I wonder how many times this fact will be mentioned before it get’s a spin on the turntable to your friends.
Shared lyrics aside we have never tired of HGM and the title track will no doubt be a highlight for many as this version of “Southern Grammar” features the HGM road band: Scott Hirsch, Phil Cook, Matt McCaughan, Matt Douglas, and Alexandra Sauser-Monnig. You can watch the live recording made by WXPN in Philadelphia below which is the live version used on the EP:
