Although best known as a member of the Karine Polwart Trio Inge Thomson is a uniquely talented artist in her own right whom I first became aware of via Scottish four-piece Harem Scarem many moons ago. The band were forward thinking and progressive as they demonstrated so well during Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy’s 2006 tour of Ireland and Scotland when they became his band along with Alex Neilson (Trembling Bells) on percussion. The resulting live album Is it the Sea? is a classic.
More recently Opera North’s Crows’ Bones has been keeping her occupied alongside Martin Green, Niklas Roswall and Becky Unthank. In a recent visit to Bristol our good friends Baylis Gray caught captured this special session in which Inge performs ‘Cycle’ from her 2010 debut album Shipwrecks & Static, a great reminder of how talented an individual she really is.
We’ll have news on another project she has been involved in very shortly.
