Sleep Furiously is a wonderful film documentary from Director Gideon Koppel that received wide critical acclaim following its showing at the Edinburgh Film Festival in 2008. The film focuses on the everyday life of a small farming community near Trefeurig in mid-Wales where the Director was born and where his mother still lives. It was described as a meditative study of the rhythms of country life, and the rhythms of the monthly visits of the mobile library. It is like stepping back in time where technology hasn’t yet put a finish to the old ways although changes are afoot – the village school is about to close, mechanisation is replacing many of the old ways, congregations are dwindling, but the village show and the sheepdog trials carry on.
Koppel presents a very honest and often funny view of a community that will leave you with a warm glow and a desire to escape.
